We live in a time of convergence. I remember my excitement ten years ago when I got my first point-and-shoot Canon camera. I soon moved up to a DSLR: the Nikon D10. In addition, I had a cell phone, a Gameboy, our family’s old iMac, an iPod, and an Xbox. Now, my smartphone has taken the place of my camera, casual gaming system, iPod, and phone. Some of us have tablets and computers, but Windows 8 devices provide a hybrid tablet and laptop device. There is a problem though: my smartphone doesn’t have the best camera.

The Better Netbook, But Still A Netbook

Android powers about 80% of the world's smartphones and 50% of US smartphones. Google Search, Google Play, YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail are the second through sixth top smartphone apps. Google Chrome is the top web browser worldwide, accounting for about 40% of web traffic. Google doesn’t just want Chrome to be your web browser of choice; it wants to be your hub for productivity, entertainment, reading, browsing. To further this end, Google created Chrome OS in 2009. Centered on the belief most people spend 90% or so of their time surfing the Internet, Chrome OS devices run only run Chrome. While this may sound pointless, the combination of Chrome’s extensive list of web apps from Web Store and other online services, Chrome OS devices have the ability to do pretty much everything your computer can do. However, this device marketed as a companion to your regular computer, just lighter and more portable. The crazy part: the Samsung Chromebook is only $249 (with the cheapest Chromebook coming in at $199).

More people are constantly documenting the many facets of our lives: parties, adventures, food, nature, friends, etc. Most have replaced compact cameras with their smart phones due to the constantly increasing quality of the sensors. We don’t even have to plug in our camera and upload our pictures to our computers with new autosave features from Google+, Dropbox and Facebook. Portability has been traded for functionality and the Photojojo Lens Set seems to partly bridge that gap. The company claims these three lenses are “like pro-lenses for your phone.” I put that claim to the test to find out if these tiny lenses are worth the money in this week’s accessory review.

The Pebble smart watch ($150 to pre-order) garnered about a record-breaking $10.3 million over a year ago on the crowd funding website KickStarter. As the one of the most successful KickStarter campaigns to date, Pebble faced high expectations to live up to. But even with the delays and over a year of waiting, I was ready excited to get this thing on my wrist and see if it lived up to the massive hype.
